Magic! By Andrew Coenen

The concept of magic has always intrigued me. As an avid player of Dungeons and Dragons, a big fan of fantasy films and books, and someone with a runaway imagination to a fault, I have long dreamed of mystical sorcery capable of doing the impossible. Of course, I also believe in the scientific process and have a passion for understanding the world as it is, not how I would like it to be, so I understand that magic isn’t real. Then again, magic is just a word. After all, we have devices......

On our last trip to Thailand, this series of events happened.  We stayed in a wonderful Airbnb that was a traditional Thai house with an open-air layout for the kitchen and dining room. The hosts were wonderful and went over and above to make sure our stay was better than expected. They took us to some of their favorite places to get street food, brought us to the Wat they went to as children and shared unknown (to us) bits of the place they call home. We entered as strangers and left......

The Cogs of the Universe by Andrew Coenen

Meet our new guest blogger, Andrew Coenen.   We live in a chaotic world. Not that you need me to tell you that, I’m sure. The cogs of the universe turn mindlessly, and they are often fickle, cruel even. In these times, we are all too often reminded of this, and worse yet, we are reminded of how little control we have over fate. The universe has a lot of bad in it, I think we all know that. But I’m here to tell you– to remind you, really– that the bad......

Virtual reality, divorce, and taking things one step at a time.

I may have been wrong about virtual reality. There were reasons I didn’t love the idea of virtual classes. I thought they were good reasons. Maybe they are in some ways. Lack of connection and more time in front of a computer over in-person interaction, to name just a few of the reasons I had an aversion to online classes. It was more than an aversion, though. I simply was not open-minded to even give it a chance. The community that comes from seeing people in person was something I didn’t want......

How are you breathing?

I’ve been told I came into this world holding my breath. The nurse handed me to my mother and said, “Well, you’ve got a stubborn one here. She held her breath for her entire first bath.” And so began my story. I’ve been told I’ve been stubborn on more than one occasion in my life. It used to make me feel like I was being judged and perceived as a big pain in the butt. Being called stubborn often made me feel bad about myself. Like I made life difficult for others......

How Do You Feel? Part 2 Is it time to heal? January 20, 2020, by Michelle Aalbers This blog begins in the same manner as Part 1. Take a moment and notice how you feel right now. Sit comfortably and notice your breath. Without trying to change your breath, notice the inhales and the exhales. Do they feel smooth? Are your breaths full and deep or are they shallow? Next, take inventory of the tension in your body. Begin at the top of your head and notice from your head to your toes......

How Do You Feel? Part 1 January 16, 2020, by Michelle Aalbers   Take a moment and notice how you feel right now. Sit comfortably and notice your breath. Without trying to change your breath, notice the inhales and the exhales. Do they feel smooth? Are your breaths full and deep or are they shallow? Next, take inventory of the tension in your body. Begin at the top of your head and notice from your head to your toes where you feel space. Where you feel tightness. Notice if you feel aches......

When the Muladhara Chakra workshop brings the unexpected…and you let it flow. January 3, 2020, by Michelle Aalbers I am stable. I am safe. I have what I need….and last night… I was surprised. I was vulnerable. I was relieved. Yesterday was an interesting day. Whether or not last night’s workshop was going to happen was in flux. Something kept telling me to wait, and trust, and that it would happen. It did. What I didn’t know is that the class would be so profound for me as a student. At one......

2019: Out like a lion…a year of facing fears and finding courage. by Michelle Aalbers January 1, 2020 Heading into 2020, taking it literally (20/20), a year of clear vision and the courage to trust. If you’d have told me in 2010 I’d be writing a blog like this one I wouldn’t have believed you. If I look back at “then and now” the last decade feels like lifetimes. There have been struggles. There has been joy. There has been a lot of transformation. There has been healing. I’ve been building the......
